This shisha coal screen is a small attachment that you place on top of the foil of your hookah tobacco bowl. Instead of placing the glowing coals directly on the foil, they rest on the metal grid. This creates a layer of air between the coal and the foil, allowing your tobacco to heat evenly instead of in a few hot spots.
Coals placed directly on the foil heat the tobacco underneath too quickly. You'll taste this as a bitter, harsh smoke halfway through your session. The screen lifts the coals slightly, distributing the heat through the grid rather than through one or two hot spots. Your foil will also last longer, as there's less direct contact with the glowing underside of the coal.
This screen is designed for square shisha coals, the cubes you first heat on a coal burner before placing them on the bowl. Round easy-light coals don't fit as well. Combine the screen with sturdy natural coals for the best, longest-lasting heat during your session with hookah tobacco.
You set up your hookah as usual: fill the tobacco bowl, pull the foil taut, and poke the holes. Then, place the screen stably on the rim of the bowl and put the square coals on it. Inhale from the hose regularly to check the temperature and slide a coal aside if the smoke becomes too hot. Afterward, rinse the screen under warm water and remove coal residue with a soft brush.
